'Chez Francis' In Brive la Gaillarde

Saturday night and with friends, we decided to go to one of our favourite little restaurants in Brive la Gaillarde.  'Chez Francis'.

This is an attractive bistrot inspired by Parisian brasseries. There are book signings on its walls and portraits of the writers who come every year to the Book Fair. Dominique Tessandier praises the cuisine of her husband, Francis. A cuisine for lovers of good food, created with feeling, such as the pan-fried milk calf with chanterelle mushrooms, the dish of choice for many of the regulars.

My husband's very 'loud' shirt (on the left) added to the colourful decor!

Very pleasant ambience and friendly and quietly efficient service. The decor is charming and everything was as it should be.

Enjoy!

Souillac Country Club - Golf!

French golf at its finest...

From almost every tee of this beautiful golf course there are panoramic views of the surrounding French countryside. It provides a truly fantastic golfing experience for golfers of all levels, with excellent greens and tree-lined fairways. The Souillac Golf & Country Club course is well known for its outstanding level of maintenance.
Originally, this was a 6 hole golf course, fully overgrown when the current owners bought the site. Golf course architect Jeremy Pern, responsible for some of Europe's most acclaimed courses, cleverly integrated many of the natural features of the landscape into the new 18 hole golf course, to great effect. The course is at the same time picturesque and technical and provides for a challenging and most enjoyable game of golf.

The official opening of the new golf course, the only 18 hole course in the Lot department of France, took place in July 2003, under the watchful eyes of some of France's most popular Rugby icons, who came over from nearby Toulouse for the occasion.

Driving Range
The 10 bay driving range is ideal for practising your game or taking some tuition by our friendly golf professional.

Putting Green
An 18 hole putting green, in the same undulating style as the main greens, is carefully maintained for your use. Like the driving range, tuition from from our golf pro is available pre-booked.

The Clubhouse, Restaurant & Bar
Our golf clubhouse, with its popular terrace bar and brasserie-style restaurant, is the ideal spot to take in the views of the French country side and golf course, meet friends and make new ones. You can also enjoy evenings of live music and other entertainment.

The Grand Hotel

The Grand hotel is situated right next door to our office, right in the middle of Souillac!  Good rates for a good hotel.  Contemporary overhaul recently done.  You can stay over, or just enjoy lunch or dinner on the terrasse or in the dining room.

I regularly eat here, both at lunchtime and evenings.  Oh, I also have the odd coffee on the terrasse in the summer rather than stay in the office!  Sit back, relax and watch the world go by.....

Chateau de la Treyne

This magnificent chateau (built in the 14th and 17th centuries) overlooks the Dordogne and blends the authenticity of the past with the comfort and quality of a landmarked site. Its French gardens extend into a 300-acre forest. Michele Gombert has mastered the art of fine living, offering luxurious rooms, breakfast beneath the hundred-year-old cedars and dinner in the Louis XIII salon or on the riverside terrace.
