As you arrive along the small quiet lane that leads you to just this property, you just know it is gong to be something quite special... The lovely bushes and well kept gardens and then you see the property. A beautiful well kept house that has a lovely homely feel about it.

To the front of the main house there is a terraced area in front of the kitchen. Perfect to enjoy the views over the sloping garden to the front. Inside we step into the kitchen.

The lounge has a fireplace.

Upstairs we find the three bedrooms. Slightly dated decor but you can feel the quality of this property. A slight step up into the bathroom in the tower gives this one some more character and charm together with the lovely exposed beams.

Next to the main house, joined by an archway where you can also access the rear garden, is where you enter into the old vaulted wine cave. Impress your friends!

Opposite the main house is the 'maison d'amis'. A large room where guest could comfortably stay. The tidiest attic space I think I have ever seen in an old French property could also be used if further habitable space required.

Next to this is the old bread oven. I know how you all like to see the old features that are so taken for granted here, so I took a photo of the interior for you!

The garden is lovely. Huge and has very interesting parts to it. The views around are of the countryside and the gardens.

My view: A beautiful property. If you are looking for something a little special.. near to a beautiful village, then this one should be on the shortlist.

Running through the middle of Souillac is the main road leading onto Gourdon .... on that main road is where we find this property. Have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. Don't write this one off to easily it really has something about it and some very real potential....

Exterior is in good condition. Interior is a mess! Well, it's old and tatty ... It was actually two apartments before.

As you may have already found out - French agents rarely do floor plans - and... we are no different!! So I am going to have to try my best to describe this one to you. As I believe the layout here is important.

As you enter the property (which is directly off of the street pavement) you come into the hallway (which has some lovely old tiles!) and there is a door at the opposite end where you go out into the courtyard garden to access the flat upstairs.

Back to the ground floor. Either side of the hallway, there are two and a bit rooms either side. Condition of them is awful, not having been lived in for years, dirt and grime is especially appealing to the now resident spiders! A horrible, ugly square bathroom has been added to one side, which should be taken down - in my own humble opinion of course! It takes up room in the garden, and is just sooooo ugly!

Going out into the garden is where we find an interesting little courtyard space. Even more interesting as you have to go upstairs into the flat and I think this area could be made into a stunning little place. Behind the property is gardens from another house, so not built up and it makes it seem more 'open'.

Upstairs there is a complete two bedroom flat. Old wallpaper yes - but lovely old wooden floors and some nice fireplaces.

I think this property could be made into one nice get away place. Works needed ok, but at a price like this... it's very interesting. Two minutes walk to the town centre.... some double glazing, particularly at the front and you would not know you were on the main road. Open up all the windows at the back and enjoy the terrace!

Alternatively, this could be an great investment property. Either side of the hallway could be made into two studio flats and the upstairs could just be overhauled - giving three rental possibilities! With a town like Souillac, which has two large schools with students who look for accommodation in the school year, this one could give a very steady income.

My view: An interesting property indeed. I would have to get someone in to deal with the spiders but the rest I can see past.. and see what potential it has!

All on one floor, this really is a practical property for easy living. The layout is great and the rooms spacious. The kitchen is combined with the dining room. Lovely hand made units.

The lounge rooms opens up onto the garden... and what a neat well kept garden it is!

The bedrooms are all good sizes. One having bathroom en-suite and dressing room. As I said before - how nice to have such a roomy bathroom for once and it is white... (not blue, pink or avocado green!)

An office for quiet times...

Yes we had a little laugh whilst taking a look at the property for the first time. There is a separate room, the guys thought is was cool and deemed it to be for the boys - just because it had a bar! Next we passed into the huge utility room and yes, they said this room was for us girls. So shallow my male colleagues!

Outside: This property is built on a huge flat parcel of land. So much better for easy gardening. Nice terraced areas for outside dining. A huge stretch of lawn to the rear with a backdrop of several different kinds of fruit trees. Jean-Michel here helping himself to a peach!

To the rear of the garden, there is an independent building of 50m². Useful storage or it could be transformed very easily into a small living accommodation for visiting friends.....

Under the house, there is a huge basement. Presently used to store a boat! I thought this was a great space. Could easily be transformed into an apartment ....unless of course you have a boat too!

Rocamadour. The Amadour was bottled

The volume of the 2010 harvest was 30% lower than in 2009.

Last week, the cellars of winemakers of Rocamadour, the 2010 harvest was bottled.

This represents about 11 000 bottles of rose wine and 20,000 bottles of red wine, or 30% below the 2009 harvest. This was due to climatic conditions of summer 2010. This year there will be no wine in the cubi Marcaillou. The Amadour red or rosé falls into the category of Vin de Pays du Lot and obtained in 2010 the bronze medal contest of the appellation and is qualified for the 2011 competition.

The Red Amadour an intense color black with purple hues, with a nose of black fruit with vegetal notes (blackcurrant, blackberry), aromas of cherries in eau-de-vie, prunes, supported by a spicy and peppery. It has a very wide mouth and spicy with fine tannins and velvet. It is recommended to serve at 15 ° C and accompanies lamb, duck breast, duck confit or the AOC Rocamadour cheese.

When the beautiful days come and summer is here, that is also the return of the farmers' market countries. Every Thursday, St. Peter's Square in Gourdon, and summer visitors can enjoy many Gourdonnais fresh and delicious local produce (fruits and vegetables but foie gras, Rocamadour, Cahors wine .....). These markets are held every Thursday from 7 July until the first Thursday in September. It is a success every year and this initiative makes it possible to discover the regional products of Bouriane.

Just two minutes from a super little village, is where we find this just fabulous little cottage, bread oven, garage and swimming pool . Such a quiet spot, with land of 20.000m². About 20 minutes from the larger town of Gourdon in the LOT. You have the impression that you are lost in the middle of nowhere, so if you want tranquillity this one maybe for you!

As my title suggests, it is just adorable! Lovely French blue shutters and roses growing up over the old stonework make it so pretty. The exterior is in good condition, the interior is very cottage like!

The garden surrounds the cottage with this one giving absolute privacy. A very nice terrace area, shaped and surrounded by trees with views of the garden makes for a very inviting area for dining! I have taken many photo's of the outside of this one and the garden as I found so beautiful in a very simple kind of way...

Inside we step into the kitchen/dining room and also a step back in time. A little on the dinky side but it is a cottage! There is a lovely wood burning stove too. The small utility room and W.C are through to the left.

The lounge is a large room with a nice fireplace to one end, exposed beams and a door leading onto the conservatory the other end.

A word of warning here! The stairs going up to the two bedrooms and bathroom are a little on the narrow side. Larger framed people may have to turn a little sideways! All the fun of living in an authentic cottage!

The two bedrooms are good enough sizes. One slightly quirky thing is that the bathroom, which is a good size, is situated to one end of one of the bathrooms, in the tower in fact. So you will have to know the other person/s who are in that bedroom quite well as you have to pass through! However, in the other bedroom, there is a dressing room so another small bathroom could be made.

The old bread oven has actually been quite nicely restored and at present has been used as another bedroom for guests! (Perfect for mother-in-laws!)

The pool has not been un-covered this year. We have been told however that the liner was re-placed about two years ago and has always been maintained.

There is a large garage.

My view: So cute! The location is outstanding. The price too! Interior could do with a refresh with a coat of paint but you could live in it directly. If you are looking for peace and quiet and a large garden - this one should certainly be on your short-list! A great price for a huge chunk of French countryside!

Difficult to get a good angle to take a photo of this property as of course it is situated in the little streets of Souillac. On the other- hand I perhaps prefer to describe it as the photo's do not quite give it the justice it deserves! Very tired and tatty brown shutters do not make this appealing on first glance - but just a coat of paint will change that immediately!

As I said this is actually a substantial property. The living accommodation is on the first and second floor and it benefits from a huge terrace off of the kitchen, which has sun all day. Yes, the kitchen needs some refreshing! The lounge/dining room, although seeming rather brown (it's all the dark furniture), has a really nice feel about it. Large room with large windows. There are two bedrooms also on this floor. Decor certainly needs refreshing as you can see from the lovely stains under the windows and to some points around the room (!). However, the bedrooms are great! 15 and 13m². Huge and nicely shaped...

Upstairs, on the second floor there are two bedrooms.

Ground floor is the huge garage and basement. Difficult to get garaging in the town so it is a huge benefit. There is also quite a charming little terraced garden...

My view: A good central town property. Huge in fact. Spacious, yet homely. Needs refreshing but nothing structural.

The history of the abbey of Souillac, one of the key monuments of this charming area of the department, there are many episodes where monks have played a role. When the Benedictines settled in the plain to soil (so named for a local word "Souilha" meaning muddy, swampy place), they replace a community based, according to tradition, by Saint-Eloi.

The monks then dry out the swamp and continuously transform it into a rich area. Ruined and sacked several times during the Hundred Years War, the abbey is recovering thanks to the tenacity of the abbots, but the Wars of Religion it cause even greater damage.

Rebuilt in the fifteenth century, and then attached to the Congregation of St. Maur, Abbey ceases to exist on the Revolution, its buildings being transformed into the tobacco shop. The abbey church became St. Mary's parish church of Souillac, instead of the church Saint-Martin, destroyed during the religious wars. The church is similar to buildings such as Byzantine style with Périgueux Cathedral Saint-Front and Cahors to the St. Stephen's Cathedral, but is more advanced in its forms, lighter in his elevation. The people did not pay the salt tax, they would not house the king's soldiers, but they had to pay a voluntary donation for the Viscount and did not pay the capitation.En 1738, the Vicomte de Turenne (and Duke of stock), debt, sells the Viscount for the price of 4.2 million pounds. Based on this specific date, the parish and the community Cressensac will be subject to all laws of the kingdom, will pay taxes, provide soldiers and militiamen, and will be required to house the troops. This will cause many problems that will require the constabulary from Souillac to intervene repeatedly.

2 days hiking between Lot and Dordogne

The cyclists will take an eyeful during these two days of hiking.

25 and June 26 Cahors Cycling will hold its biennial meeting "Two Days between Lot and Dordogne." This year, a special edition "60th Anniversary" was concocted by Daniel Arnaudet, head of the plot.

The cyclists will leave on Saturday by the Cahors Pont Valentré and descend the valley of the Lot with a supply referred to in terms of Bélaye.After many twists and turns of the river and the vineyard, they will make a getaway in Lot-et-Garonne and the castles of Bonaguil Biron and join the Dordogne and its beautiful sites Montpazier, La Roque-Gageac, Domme, Monfort, before arrive at Souillac, a city stage of this magnificent course after 172 km of hiking.

The 144 km of Cahors return the next day will be made through the plateau, Rocamadour, the valley of the Cele and the Lot valley that should not disappoint with a passage in St. Cirq Lapopie.

Cyclists pedaling also with the heart present a check to the association "Ride Together against Cancer" at the end of two days with the participation by each paid at registration.

Souillac. The results are positive for the school dance

The young dancers gave a dazzling show.

The past year was again full of activities for the association of the School of dance and choreography workshops in the area of Souillac.

The two courses open to all country in February and April, dense choreography all the more dynamic than the other, and the Celtic dance workshop in May, which proved informative, friendly and very nostalgic for some, all very successful.

Then came the climax, after a full year of dance classes for over 70 hardworking students, volunteers and trained diligently with the show season at the convention center.

Finally this year filled with excitement and activity and an intergenerational approach, dance school will move to the nursing home in early July to entertain the seniors.

Souillac. The mimes will invade the streets of the city

Mime Festival begins July 27 PLC.

The Festival will be held controller mime, this year, July 27, 3, 10 and 17 August in the form of "Wednesdays at the mime."

Some 500 young people across France were to go.

The 15th National Youth tournament off category, which brought together more than 500 children from throughout France, was a great success thanks to the excellent work of a team of over 50 volunteers, honed over 15 years at the organizing such an event.

The two-day beginners (U8-U9), chicks (U10-U11) and juniors (U12-U13) were able to compete address, spontaneity and freshness to try to reach the final of their class and bring the coveted trophy in their club, all in a friendly atmosphere run by the local band of Cabécous and orchestrated by thirty volunteer referees.

It Tarbes, as youngest chicks, the successor to Blois and Colomiers and will return next year to put his trophy at stake. The club should do it with more pleasure, as the host lotois was remarkable during the weekend of Pentecost.

The group will open the 36th Colors Vocal Jazz Festival, Tuesday, July 19.

Well what can I say about the condition? Exterior is not bad at all. Interior, well, some of it has not been changed in about 50 years I imagine! But this is much more fun, you can actually work with the original features and make it how you want. Sometimes, when places like this have had so called renovations, they have sometimes been done badly and some have had the original features removed - not this one!

There is a little kitchen on entering the property. Very French like! Then you enter into the dining room - but this has a sink in it too (?????) so this could be a kitchen also! Large room with a large cantou fireplace. It looks dark and brown - but that is because of the French love of all dark furniture!

The lounge room is next. A very good sized room with some very nice features (cobwebs 'n' all!). However, Mamie prefers her dining room so has not used this room in many many years.

The five bedrooms are all very good sizes. Most of the rooms containing more than one bed! There are also some other reminders of times gone by.... and yes they are probably still used!! There is one in every room... Mamie really does look after her guests. I just had to take a photo for you!

The barn is huge! In great condition.

The other little barn is also really cute.

My view: A very nice original ensemble. Think how this would look with some decorating alone. Could be a stunning property!

What a great little place! It is situated off of the main road but far enough back so it's not a problem. Mostly in good condition - perhaps a little tidy up needed but nothing really big to tackle with this one. There is a kitchen, lounge, dining room which forms a kind of L shape. The kitchen is open to the dining area. Kitchen is basic but the whole place is so light and bright with many windows all around.

The living accommodation is on kind of split levels which is nice and quirky! There is the bathroom and office on the first floor and the two bedrooms above.

On the ground floor, with it's own separate entrance is another room with a shower room - perfect for staying guests!

The garden is to all sides giving nice distance and privacy to the property.

Tax on Holiday Homes Scrapped

The proposed tax on holiday homes in France has been scrapped by the French government.

The decision to abandon the idea was taken over the weekend at a meeting between President Nicolas Sarkozy and the Minister of Budget, François Baroin.

The meeting was also attended by a group of senators representing French nationals living abroad, who would also be caught by the new tax.

The particularly difficult constituency for the government is likely to have been the tens of thousands of French working abroad, who retain a home in France.

According to a statement from the Elysee Palace, ‘y avait une très forte incompréhension des Français établis à l'étranger.’

So the reason for abandoning the tax may well be political, for the government had clearly not thought through the implications of this proposal on an important body of supporters living abroad, and the nuances of why some of them were exiled.

It was certainly a last minute idea, thrown in mix of the finance bill during its passage through parliament in order to help make the sums stack up on the reduction in the wealth tax.

Whether legal considerations came into the discussion remains unclear, but there are a number of expert commentators who considered that the new tax infringed EU regulations, and was also contrary to a number of taxation treaties France has in place with other countries.

There also appears to have been political pressure from the UK, for David Lidington, the Minister of Europe, also protested to senior French politicians about the new tax.

According to the French government, 363,000 owners would have been liable for the tax, of which around half would have been UK citizens.

Although the proposal caused a huge amount of consternation amongst those with second homes in France, this was largely because of a misunderstanding about just how much it would cost.

In fact the impact was likely to have been relatively mild. For the vast majority of those affected by it, the tax was never going to cost more than a few hundred euros a year.

The government estimated total revenues from the tax of €176 million a year, equating to a broad average charge of around €500 a year, although it would vary by type, size and location of property.

Around 350,000 non-resident second home owners who rent out their property would also have escaped the tax.

As the new tax was being introduced to help finance the reduction in the wealth tax, the government will now need to find a replacement source of revenue. The belief is widespread that the likely candidate will be an increase in capital gains tax on building land.

Upstairs there are two further bedrooms and bathroom. One of the bedrooms also has a balcony.

Underneath the house there is a huge garage, workshop, utility and general junk storage area at present. The photo's show it as being a bit messy - well it was, the owner really did use it as a workshop!

A fair size garden surrounds the property. Some planting would enclose you!

My view: Perhaps not a typical house you would be thinking of if you came to buy in France. However, more and more people are deciding to be in town to be near life(!). This is one you should seriously consider if you would like to live the ordinary French persons life!

I have to say, for a newish house, I really like this one. Ok, not the orange decor! This property is situated high up just on the outskirts of the town of Souillac. As you go up quite high there are just the most amazing views all around. It is a kind of residential area, but in the countryside at the same time. It was built in 1997.

The property is a good size, four bedrooms with an open lounge kitchen room. The best part is the terrace with the pool.... you walk out of your lounge to that!

As you enter into the front gates, you are in front of the garage. Huge inside! There is an internal staircase leading up to the house. To the side of the driveway, there are steps leading up to that fabulous terrace with the swimming pool. There is a nice BBQ area... this is a lovely and private.

Inside there is the large lounge room. Try to look past those colours.... because this is a great room. Large sliding doors go on to the terrace and there is also access to a terrace at the back of the house. All important shade for those hot summer days!

The kitchen is in the corner of the lounge room. Fitted, a bit brown but as French kitchens go - not too bad!

The bedrooms, or 'night area' as they say here, is all to the far end. Four bedrooms in total (vendors in the stages of packing up to leave) and the bathroom. The bathroom is a touch pink, but not too bad!!

Outside, the garden surrounds the house. Lovely mature trees and plants. A kind of easy garden (which appeals to me)... attractive yet low maintenance!

My view: Loved it! I'm not always a fan of newer style places, as some can be very 'boxy' if you know what I mean. However, this one seemed spacious enough, was light and bright. I loved the situation too. Just a simple make-over with some neutral colours will make this a great place. And I have to say, the price is fantastic as you have to remember there is the pool too!

Rocamadour. Cheese Day attracts 10,000 people

The 22nd Cheese Festival broke the attendance record of 2010.

This search for the authenticity of the cheeses present on the Feast of cheese is the first targets.

The second is that everyone, young and old, are at the party. In a joyous crowd, musicians, comedians, jugglers, stilt walkers acrobats or have wandered all day.

The festival is also a human adventure, with its hundreds of volunteers and the participation of many companies that provide support.

Representatives of Béarn and Basque country are left to their mountains, lasting memories of Amadourien for their welcome and are very pleased to be able to familiarize Lotois their culture through their many songs.

The mass of the products of the earth, celebrated by Norbert Turini, Bishop of Cahors, Rocamadour, has been very successful, and lovers of beautiful songs and beautiful voices were able to appreciate those choirs of Rocamadour and Tardets.

A village house - used to be the local bar!

Great little stone built village house. In fact I know this village well. It's a village that is between Souillac and Brive la Gaillarde. Funky village! Every year they hold a huge music festival that is gathering more and more interest every year. Will it become the French version of Glastonbury? Doubt that but for three days a year the village is heaving with music people and the locals love it and embrace it!

The village itself has all small commerce. The house is situated opposite the main church square... photo's taken on a grey day I'm afraid so imagine some sun... nicely positioned if you want to be in the heart of the village.

As I said, downstairs is still bar-like. Bar still in place! This could be your new lounge...

Upstairs there are two bedrooms, well one is more like an office size, and the shower room. The bedrooms has a balcony over looking the square.

Up again and you find another bedroom and bathroom (rather pink!).

The property is in pretty good condition. Just some re-decoration and this one will be perfect.

My view: Cute and quirky!!

What is that coming round the corner? It's 'Le petit train' !!!!!

We know when tourist season is here... when they get the mini train out! Trundling around the streets of Souillac and down past the river..... This picture was taken from my balcony - where, if we are sitting out, we have to wave endlessly several times a day like robotics with a fixed smile!!

It was quite funny the other day though. I heard loud shouts of "Whoa" and roars of laughter from the elderly passengers who had certainly had a little too much 'vin' at lunch! I went to the window and saw the train coming to a halt. A man gesticulated to the ground and I saw a handbag on the road. But the train started again... the driver not understanding the problem. Another loud "Whoa" and a lady got out to re-claim the now run over hand bag!!! You just had to be there!
